Art Theft Mystery

The Fine Arts Society of Peoria is participating with the Peoria Area World Affairs Council and several other Peoria area arts, educational and historical organizations to sponsor a free contest in connection with the November 13 presentation, “International Art Theft: Tales from the FBI’s Real Indiana Jones” with Robert Wittman, one of the FBI’s most experienced trackers of stolen art. The presentation will be held at 7 p.m. at Lakeview Museum. It is free for World Affairs Council members and $10 for non-members. A $10 dessert reception will be held at 6 p.m.

Now for the contest! OCTOBER IS MYSTERY MONTH IN PEORIA! The contest begins on October 1 and ends on Halloween!

To enter the contest, click on the Peoria Public Library website, to download the story, Who Has the Warhol? and the Eleven Questions and entry form. You can also visit any of the Peoria Public Library’s branches to pick up copies of the story and questions.

For help answering the questions, you can visit the websites of the groups listed on the Eleven Questions form for clues to the answers. Librarians at the Peoria Public Library can help you access the websites for the clues if necessary.

Mail (that's snail-mail!) your answers by October 31, 2008, to The Peoria Area World Affairs Council, 1501 W. Bradley Avenue, Peoria, IL 61625.

All participants with the correct answers will be part of a drawing for the grand prize: a gift basket of chocolates, wine, and an art mystery DVD, as well as memberships in the participating organizations, a subscription to art & society magazine, and a private dinner party with the speaker, Robert K. Wittman.

Clue to Question 7

She tried her hardest to make a quick study of some of the art they had assembled, but truth be known, she remembered very little. She had little idea who Andy Warhol was until her husband told her. She sighed. “What the 'heck', my job is to have a party not to be an art critic.”

Brooke had arranged an informal brunch to thank everyone for the tremendous success of her party.
