Virgil Charles Johnson
Double, Double, Toil and Trouble--Design for Shakespeare's Works
Virgil Charles Johnson will make us aware of the complex relationships between interpreting Shakespeare's written texts and designing costumes for Shakespearean actors.
Located in Chicago, Mr. Johnson has been an active professional costume designer in regional theatre for the past 45 years.
He will discuss costume design, both past and present, for Shakespeare's plays. His main focus will be on designing the costumes for the 2010 production of Verdi's opera Macbeth,for the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
Mr. Johnson received his BFA at Boston University School of Fine Arts and his graduate degree from Northwestern University. He is a Professor Emeritus at Northwestern University.
