Janet Clanton
Significant Others in Art: Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner
Significant others in art play a key role in the creative process. Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner's tumultuous relationship honed their skills and helped elevate their art to mythic levels. Janet Clanton will explore the lives of this artist couple and how they adjust to their talent.
After she married the tempestuous Pollock, Lee Krasner became first of all a wife; she withdrew into the background, managed her husband's affairs, boosted his ego, and heralded his triumphs. The Pollock's lived in a house in East Hampton, L.I., and he made the barn into his studio. But Lee had her own studio in the house and never stopped painting.
Janet Clanton has been with the Orlando Museum of Art since 1985. During that time she has served as Educational Assistant, Coordinator of Educational Programs, Assistant Curator of Education, Adult Program Specialist, and currently Associate Curator of Adult Programs. Her many responsibilities include creating, writing and presenting a six month art appreciation course for OMA members, an outreach art appreciation series for four area residential facilities, outreach lectures in Osceola and Sumter Counties, and development and presentation of five elderhostel series in Seminole County.
