The Michelangelo Project

Dr. Spell will present an overview of the relationship between the Harry and Karly Spell Foundation and the Museo Casa Buonarrotti of Florence, Italy, in the production of a unique edition of six bronze bozzetti - small sculptures - taken directly from priceless Michelangelo clay models that are part of the collection at the Museo.

The use of new laser scanning and rapid prototyping technology makes it possible to cast bronze duplicates of original clay models without damaging the models. These bronzes are the first works of Michelangelo the Museo Casa Buonarrotti has offered for sale in modern times and are the only authenticated works by the master outside Europe. A set of the castngs will be on display at Lakeview Museum. Dr. Spell will also speak on the lost-wax casting process.

Dr. Harry Spell is, with his wife Karly, owner of Art Casting of Illinois, Inc. a fine art foundry and Adagio Fine Art, an art gallery in Oregon, Illinois. They have owned and operated the foundry for twenty years serving clients internationally. They have, also, established the Spell Foundation for encouragement and support of the arts. The foundation is also serving internationally, including the Michelangelo Project with Museo Casa Buonarroti in Florence, Italy.

Harry was a university professor of music for thirty years, teaching in several universities, including Bradley University. He also performed widely as vocal soloist, early music specialist, and conductor of choruses, chamber music, early music ensembles, symphony orchestra, opera and ballet. He taught and performed in much of the United States and several countries in Europe.
