The Trials, Travels and Triumphs of a Public Sculptor

Creators of public art – i.e., works in any media which have been planned and executed to be sited in the public domain – often face unexpected obstacles and challenges, but they are granted many rare and exciting opportunities as well. Fisher Stolz, Associate Professor of Art and Head of the Sculpture Area at Bradley University, will share experiences he personally has lived while producing both large- and small-scale pieces shown at various locations across the country and beyond. He'll elaborate, in particular, on an outdoor work-in-progress for Caterpillar's Mapleton foundry and on another of his creations which was completed during late 2005 as part of a Sculpture Exchange program on the campus of Western Michigan University. Lastly, Professor Stolz will report on his recent teaching assignment in the picturesque Italian (Tuscan) hill-town of Cortona.
